3D VR Physical Education Mobile Application for Children with Autism Now Available in Open Access

Updated: Feb 3

3D Virtual Reality (VR)–based mobile application for Physical Education (PE) has been successfully developed and is now available in open accessThe VR application was developed over a six-month period with the active involvement of autism specialists, ensuring that the content responds to the specific needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Purpose and Target Group

The application is designed to support teachers, parents, school professionals, and special education institutions working with students with ASD. Its main goal is to promote inclusive physical education, physical activity, social interaction, and mental well-being through the use of innovative, technology-enhanced learning tools.

Application Content

The 3D VR PE mobile application includes:

  • educational content explaining why physical education activities are important for students with autism;

  • 3D-animated physical movements and PE activities, adapted to the individual needs of students with ASD, demonstrating how inclusive PE can be implemented in practice;

  • an assessment and feedback section to collect user experiences, supporting continuous improvement of the application.

Educational Impact

The VR-based application serves as a practical guide for teachers, enabling them to engage students with ASD in physical education in a safe, motivating, and inclusive learning environment. It supports students’ physical, social, and cognitive development, while also increasing awareness among school professionals, parents, and the wider community about the benefits of physical activity and sports for students with ASD. This 3D VR PE mobile application represents a sustainable, innovative, and evidence-based solution for inclusive physical education and demonstrates the strong potential of digital technologies to enhance inclusion in school education across Europe.

as well as one post about the piloting testing phase that is currently open and taking place in each partner organisation. You can use the picture you sent me on WhatsApp showing the conference results.

Pilot Testing Phase Has Officially Started Across All Partner Organisations

All partners of the Erasmus+ project “Supporting Children with Autism through Physical Education” have officially launched the pilot testing phase within their own organisations.

This phase is based on the developed curriculum and the 3D VR mobile application and focuses on training students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), their parents, and teachers. Through inclusive physical education activities supported by innovative VR tools, the pilot testing aims to strengthen social inclusion, communication, cooperation, physical activity, and overall well-being of students with ASD.

Pilot testing activities are being implemented both within the partnership and outside the partnership, involving school professionals, teachers, parents, and students working with ASD learners. This approach helps increase awareness of inclusive PE practices and promotes evidence-based methods for ASD education among the wider school community.

Through this phase, the project seeks to achieve:

  • improved social interaction, communication, cooperation, and physical activeness of students with ASD;

  • stronger interaction between students with and without disabilities in inclusive PE settings;

  • increased competencies, knowledge, and skills of teachers, school professionals, and parents;

  • higher awareness of the role of physical activity, sports, and mental well-being for students with ASD.

The quality and impact of the pilot testing are being assessed through teachers’ field notes, pre- and post-assessment tests, surveys, and user feedback on the curriculum and VR application.

As part of the dissemination activities, partners are also organising network-building events to present project results and promote inclusive PE practices to key stakeholders.

The pilot testing phase represents an important step toward creating inclusive, innovative, and sustainable physical education environments for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder across all partner countries."
